My GoPro got wet!

So what do you think happens when the GoPro? gets wet?

GoPro Hero got Wet

It was a great days, waves were high and I was really exited to get in. I attached the gopro to my paddle and started paddling into the break. after a few minutes I heard some beeps coming from the gopro without any action from my side so I was wondering what was going on? taking a closer look I found out the housing was (half) full of water and the camera is on and beeping. I tried to shut it down with no luck, opened the case to drain the water out but unsurprisingly it was acting strange.

I didn’t want to miss the session so I just went out, took it off the paddle, dried it with a towel, took it apart and left it on my scooter.

After a couple of hours, I finished my session hoping that the camera will be ok. I tried to turn it on, but it was dead…

First, I contacted – I must say that they were great and their customer service surprised me again. Although they don’t cover water, they gave me a nice discount coupon to buy a new one and even sent me another mount just trying to make me feel better.

I was curios to see if the camera took some videos while drinking water so if you find it interesting, this is what happen when you take underwater videos without the housing:

I must say that even now i don’t know how water got in, I tested the housing again and again and there was no leak. my only guess is that maybe I closed it on part of leash as an accident – be aware of that.

now for the surprising part –

I took it apart and put it in a box of rice for a week! adding some special spray to clean it and some WD40 and the camera was a live taking both videos and photos…

the only thing that is not working for me is the PCB port so I can’t attach my lcd or battery backpack.

My new camera is on its way but my next DIY project will be to try and replace the rusty PCB from this one :-)
